9. JOHN4 MAVERICK (Paul,3 Elias,2 John,1), of Boston, Mass. was baptized at Charlestown, Mass., 14 Aug. 1687, aged one year. He married in Boston, 19 Sept. 1710, ELIZABETH MATTOX, born there 20 Sept. 1691, daughter of Samuel and Ann Mattox.

John Maverick was an importer of hard woods at the sign of the ‘Cabinet and Chest of Drawers’ on Middle (now Hanover) Street (REGISTER, vol. 48, p. 209). He was a subscriber for six copies of Prince’s ‘Chronology’ (REGISTER, vol. 6, p. 195).

Elizabeth (Mattox) Maverick was admitted a member of the Second Church of Boston and six of her children were baptized there.

ii. PAUL, b. 10 Apr. 1714 and bapt. 18 Apr. 1714; d. about 1746; m. at Stratford, Conn., 25 Dec. 1740, GLORIA MARGARETTA NICHOLS [NICOLL], perhaps daughter of Benjamin Nichols.

In October 1746 Joseph Brown and Gloriana Maverick, as executors, memorialized the General Court to sell land to pay the debts of the late Paul Maverick of Stratford to the extent of £1700. 11s. 9d. (Connecticut Colonial Records, vol. ix, p. 250).

iii. ELIZABETH, b. 7 Mar. 1715/16 and bapt. 11 Mar.1715/16; d. at Chelmsford, Mass., 26 July 1743, aged 27 years; m. in Boston, 22 Sept. 1738, MAJ. SAMPSON STODDARD, A.B. (Harvard, 1730), A.M. (ibid., 1733), b. at Chelmsford 21 Mar. 1709, d. in 1777, son of Sampson and Elizabeth Stoddard.

1. John, b. 23 July 1739; d. at Chelmsford 20 Sept. 1739.

2. Sampson, b. 12 Mar. 1740/1; was bur. at Chelmsford 26 Mar. 1779, aged 38 years; m. in Boston, 20 Sept. 1772, Jemima White of Boston.

3. Elizabeth, b. 12 Feb. 1741/2; d. at Chelmsford 10 Oct. 1749.

4. A child, was bur. 10 July 1743.

iv. JOTHAM, of Boston, merchant, b. 20 Mar. 1717/18 and bapt. 23 Mar. 1718; m. (1) in Boston, 5 Oct. 1742, MEHITABLE BANKS; m. (2) in Boston, 20 Jan. 1748, MARY WILLIAMS, widow of John Williams.

Children by first wife:

1. Elizabeth,6 bapt. 25 Dec. 1743; m. in Boston, 7 Aug. 1766, Ebenezer McIntosh. Children (surname McINTOSH): (1) Elizabeth, b. in Boston 12 Dec. 1767. (2) Paschal Paoli, b. in Boston 31 Mar. 1769.
