Was born December 15th, 1805, in Genesee county, New York.  In politics he has ever been a staunch Whig and Republican, casting his first ballot for Gen. William Henry HARRISON in 1836, in Tippecanoe county, Indiana, where he then lived; and again (with more success) in 1840.  In 1888 he voted for Gen. Benjamin HARRISON, making two out of three successful votes for the HARRISONs.
